Polygon Village Support For DeSci
A couple of weeks ago, we announced the launch of a new vertical - decentralized science (DeSci).
As part of this new initiative, Polygon Village will be offering DeSci-related projects with the following benefits:
DAO Shoutouts
For those that recall, Polygon DAO, in partnership with Devfolio, hosted its first-ever WAGMI JobDrops Event a couple of weeks ago. This was a virtual job fair where individuals were able to meet and connect with hiring partners - top web3 companies that were looking to onboard new members to their team.
Airstack was one of the hiring partners for the event, and this is how their experience turned out:
Our Village Talk sessions are a great marketing opportunity for projects, whereas, for the community, it’s a great time to get some sweet alpha.
Last week we held three Village Talk sessions:
DeSci AMA
As we do every Monday now, Polygon DAO started off the week with a DeSci AMA session, featuring VitaDAO.
The conversation centered around the challenges in funding scientific research, and how DeSci aims to solve these - as well as getting to learn more about how VitaDAO is democratizing longevity. For anyone interested, you can catch the link to the episode below.
Expert Talks & Project Pitches
On last week’s Expert Talk session we had LiFi Protocol, a cross-chain liquidity aggregator, join us to discuss the topic of “Bridges & Composability”.
As usual, we then had two teams take the stage to pitch their project to the community:
Realtize: a platform that offers crypto investment counseling services
Sharpe AI: building structured investment products to help users make better investment decisions
Friday AMA
We ended the week with an AMA session featuring Orange Protocol, a trustless reputation platform.
You can catch the recording down below, however, this week’s Village Story section featured Orange Protocol, so make sure to continue reading to learn more about this reputation platform if you’re interested.
Village Wonders First Cohort Announced!
Village Wonders by Polygon DAO is a 3-month acceleration cohort where 12 selected projects receive several benefits, including funding, service vouchers, mentorship, a demo day in front of top VC’s, and more.
We were only able to select 12 projects out of the 500+ applicants we saw. Ten of these selected projects have just been revealed this past week, with the other two expected to be announced towards the end of October:
You can check out our blog post to learn more about the selected projects.
This is just the first of many cohorts to come, so make sure to keep up with the Village Times so you don’t miss any upcoming events.
Cross-Chain Tooling
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been going over the different verticals provided through our vouchers, one by one. The previous two weeks we looked at our Storage & Hosting, and Accounting verticals. Today, we want to dive into our Cross-Chain Tooling vertical.
What is cross-chain technology?
Cross-chain technology enables communication between different chains, allowing for value and data to be transferred between two networks. This enables developers to integrate different networks into their dapp. For example, a Polygon lending dapp allowing for BTC to be used on their platform as collateral, or a wallet allowing its users to store tokens from across several chains.
What are the benefits?
There are several benefits of cross-chain technology, some of which include:
Increased flexibility for users
Increased liquidity for dapps
Dapp Innovation: think of the potential dapps that can be built based on triggers (if x buys y on that chain, then this happens on this chain)
How does Polygon DAO help?
Luckily, Polygon DAO has partnered with five different projects to provide free Cross-Chain Tooling service vouchers to our selected Village projects.
LiFi: a developer solution providing advanced bridge aggregation with DEX connectivity
Connext: cross-chain bridging between chains & rollups
Biconomy - Hyphen: provides simple APIs to transfer between EVM chains (L1’s & L2’s)
Wormhole: interoperability protocol across 14 chains
Multichain: a cross-chain router protocol (previously Anyswap)
Any project that is looking to add cross-chain tooling support to their application can apply for our Village vouchers here.

Village story #7 ~ Orange Protocol
This week we’re going to take a look at Orange Protocol, following the release of their Genesis Drop NFT, which any Polygon DAO member can claim.
What Is Orange Protocol
Orange Protocol is a protocol for building decentralized, trustless, and portable reputations in web3.
Currently, our reputations are handled by third parties, like Uber & Yelp. This means my 5-star Uber driving score won’t transfer to my Lift score. Adding portability, as Orange aims to do, means my reputation travels with me wherever I go.
Orange can serve as a DAO tool that allows individuals to level up within a DAO - my work experience in this DAO can be carried over to that other DAO, kind of like a web3 resume.
How Does It Work
Orange Protocol is both a middleware for dApp builders and a reputation management portal for self-sovereign individuals using data sources and models from across Web3.
Orange Protocol aggregates on and off-chain data to create reputation models for users, which can then be used by developers in different ways, such as an incentive mechanism, or DAO governance (reputation-based voting rather than token based).
Orange x Polygon
On August 16th, Orange Protocol launched their Genesis Drop NFT campaign on Polygon, where users were able to claim this NFT and be entered into a chance to win $400 in USDT.
Polygon DAO members simply need to complete a few simple steps in order to be eligible.
To learn more about the Genesis Drop, you can check out the original blog post.
